This photo was taken yesterday at the end of our day with Paul and Nathan. As you can see, Nathan is not keen on having his photo taken!
Afterwards, Claire took them home and had a worrying conversation with their mum. It seems that Paul has been in trouble at school recently. After Hugh's death, he obviously went through a tough time but the staff at his school were made aware of what had happened and he got support in the form of counselling, although he didn't take to his counsellor. Since he moved up to his new class in September, it seems that his new teacher was unaware of his history and his anger has been getting him into trouble. His mother and the school have since worked together and he now has a mentor and can have time out to diffuse the situation when things get fraught.
Paul knows only that his dad was ill and died. Whether he will ever know the details is a debate for the future, but  it is clear that Hugh's death is casting long shadows.
At present, my anger is directed at the school. Moving Paul up to a new class, without making the new teacher aware of his situation is inexcusable - and that's my polite description!

You have every right to be angry with the school. I hope in time things get easier for him and he gets the help he needs. It's understandable he is angry.x

Occasionally they are so insensitive. It doesn't take much to show a discreet amount of sympathy and concern.

Error on fourth line - "Paul" is repeated when I think you meant "Hugh". It was always amazing how vital information about youngsters was often not passed on to me as a frontline teacher. It was so easy to "put your foot in it". Hopefully things will now be better for Paul.

Thanks for your comments, everyone and thanks, YP for noticing my error - now corrected. :)

I feel for Nathan. My Grandson was a mixed up boy through family upsets and eventually came to live with us a 14 years old.
He was VERY angry with things and after a lot of angst and dabbling in things he shouldn't have he worked it out and is now just finishing his 3rd year at Westminster Uni.
It takes time but with the right attitude towards him he will be okay.

Thanks for visiting, Briony. Actually it is Paul who was having the problems. Nathan is his half brother, so has a different father. Paul seems to be settling down again now that he has extra support at school, though.

I've just read this Jenny. How is Paul getting on now? Any improvement? I wonder if Paul is picking up that not all is being talked about?

Yes, much better now, thanks Katherine. He has some support in school now and an arrangement that there will be someone he can talk to when necessary.
